I spend so much time – about, 4 hours at least each day on linkedin. The people I’m meeting from around the world are really quite amazing.
The way though to really make linkedin work for you is to take part in the group discussions. Unlike Facebook where people are sending each other silly virtual gifts and annoying each other with friend requests (I haven’t sent one for eons but just accept everyone so I have almost 3000 “friends”), on Linkedin you can actually get somewhere.
Take for instance this one very interesting person Nosisa that I met from Zimbabwe! I’ve seen Zimbabwe on Globetrekker maybe, and of course whenever it’s in the news, but now I know someone from there. What’s more is that she’s in the broadcast business, knows sports, and maybe we can help each other. It’s the kind of quality networking that I’m finding you just can’t get done anywhere else.
YouTube for Video, Google’s Picasaweb for photos and LinkedIn for social networking are my three favorite sites. Stay tuned because I will add to this list some other cutting edge sites that are a little further out of the box and take the idea of social networking to a new level.
